The Lamborghini Urus, the first Super SUV and the third model line for Lamborghini, makes its UK debut in London. The UK, which is the third largest market for Lamborghini, forecasts a doubling of sales with the introduction of the Urus, reflecting worldwide expectations. Deliveries to customers of the Urus commence in summer 2018, when the Super SUV joins the Lamborghini Aventador and Huracán super sports car model ranges.

In a presentation by the Automobili Lamborghini board to more than 500 guests at the RHS Halls in London, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stefano Domenicali said: “The UK is an extremely market for Lamborghini, which has a strong motoring heritage and a particular enthusiasm and empathy with performance cars. The Lamborghini super sports DNA of design, performance, driving dynamics and driving emotion is clear within the Lamborghini Urus, which is also as much a luxury SUV as the most powerful. An SUV for the city and the open road, the Lamborghini Urus opens the door to new possibilities for both our customers and our brand, and we are proud to formally present it to one of our most significant markets.”

The Urus features a 4.0 litre V8 twin-turbo engine delivering 650 hp at 6,000 rpm and 850 Nm of maximum torque already available at 2,250 rpm. With 162.7 hp/l the Urus claims one of the highest specific power outputs in its class and the best weight-to-power ratio at 3.38 kg/hp.

The Urus accelerates from 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds, 0-124 mph in 12.8 seconds, and with a top speed of 190 mph it is the fastest SUV available.

In 2017 Automobili Lamborghini set a sales record for the seventh year running: up 10% over the previous year, Lamborghini delivered 3,815 cars around the world.

The UK currently operates eight Lamborghini dealers, with two further authorised outlets opening in 2018. Its Lamborghini London dealership is one of the largest by volume in the world: Automobili Lamborghini has 145 dealers serving 50 countries. The UK, which also achieved a sales record in 2017, is the third largest market behind the USA and Japan.

The Lamborghini Urus retails in the UK from £165,000 on the road.

Peter Charlesworth, a resident at Care UK’s Ellesmere House, on Nightingale Place, worked with the likes of Joan Collins, Shirley Bassey and Tommy Cooper, and often reminisces fondly about his showbiz days. This enthusiasm inspired the team to organise the variety evening for Peter and the other residents to enjoy.

They were treated to live musical entertainment from Francesca Keating and Norma Sinnan singing operatic songs and Patrick Broady playing his piano from 1950’s. There was also a group of wheelchair can-can dancers and Zoe Ezeh with African dancing and a choir. The team also put together a slide show of comedy actors that Peter managed.

Francesca Keating, home manager at Ellesmere House, said: “Residents are at the heart of everything we do here at Ellesmere House and we think it is important to celebrate them for all their outstanding achievements.

“Peter joined us three years ago and his stories of his showbiz career continue to entertain the team who are currently working with Peter to create storyboards, photos and posters of his achievements.

“All of our residents had a fantastic evening watching and participating in the variety show and Peter was the star of our evening.”

Born in 1931, Peter moved between England and Portugal throughout his childhood, eventually settling in London and becoming a waiter at a restaurant visited by many famous actors. Celebrity agent and producer, Jock Jacobson, recognised his charisma and offered him a job as his junior.

Peter went on to become an agent to stars such as Christopher Biggins, Clive Dunn and Barbara Windsor, who speaks of him often in her autobiography. He has also featured and been portrayed in several television biographies of his past clients, most recently in the 2017 television drama ‘Babs’ about the life of Windsor.

An avid jazz enthusiast throughout his life, Peter still enjoys the music and videos from his past and the variety show was the perfect chance to showcase some of his favourites.

Ellesmere House is a modern care home set in attractive grounds and designed to support residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives. It provides residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.

NetJets, a Berkshire Hathaway company, unveiled a new installation with artist Frida Fjellman in Basel to celebrate the start of Art Basel. NetJets has been an Associate Partner of Art Basel for sixteen years. Ahead of the Basel show opening, the private aviation firm chose to work with Frida Fjellman, a critically acclaimed Swedish Craft Artist, in creating an innovative installation on display at the NetJets VIP lounge in the Art Basel Collectors Lounge.

Frida Fjellman’s piece ‘Crystal Atmosphere’ commissioned by NetJets for Art Basel 2017

Frida Fjellman is one of Sweden’s most prominent Craft Artists. Her hyperreal creations in ceramic and glass blur the lines between the disciplines of Craft and Fine Art and transports the viewer into a dreamlike world of myths and fables. Frida was commissioned by NetJets to create deliver an eye-catching installation that complemented the notion of air travel along with recognising the company’s engagement with design and art.

Fjellman decided to reimagine the ceiling of the NetJets VIP lounge around the theme of a Crystal Atmosphere. The installation incorporates approximately 100 glass prisms of different sizes and colours that are all hung at different heights creating a dreamlike atmosphere where the visitor automatically becomes a participant among the glass crystals. Frida worked closely with the Boda Glass factory to create the installation. Located in the famous glass blowing town of Boda Glasbruk, in Småland, Southern Sweden, the region is known as the Kingdom of Crystal and has been producing glass since the 18th century. The installation took over two months to create and each individual prism was created by hand by the skilled master glassblowers of Boda Glasbruk, each of whom have over 15 years’ experience in the craft.

Frida Fjellman’s piece ‘Crystal Atmosphere’ commissioned by NetJets for Art Basel 2017

I was interested in exploring the almost magical sense of tranquility that you experience when cruising above the clouds – flying is perhaps one of the few oasis of calm in our increasingly interconnected digital society. Crystal Atmosphere was designed to impart a sense of calm to the viewer as well as to intrigue and fascinate, making the visitor reflect and take a step back from their everyday lives. I hope that this will be a memorable and unexpected experience for the guests. said Frida Fjellman

Philip Baer, Regional Vice President, NetJets Europe commented: “Art Basel in Basel is an annual highlight for our Owners, both in Europe and across the globe, many of whom are avid art collectors and enthusiasts. NetJets has supported Art Basel in Basel since 2002 and our long-running involvement is testament to the show’s continued position as the world’s leading platform for Modern and contemporary art. This year we wanted to take our partnership with Art Basel one step further and through our collaboration with Frida, NetJets continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing innovative and exceptional experiences for our customers”.

Every year NetJets creates a six-day event at Art Basel in Basel and Art Basel in Miami Beach with their VIP lounge providing owners with hospitality throughout the week, as well as access to the show during the VIP days. The aviation firm saw flight traffic to Basel increase around 19% between 2015 and 2016 and this year is expecting in excess of 90 flights.

500 Years of Covent Garden: The Sir Simon Milton Foundation Garden in partnership with Capco

Covent Garden is set to be reimagined as a breathtaking Show Garden at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, bringing a much-loved part of London to the world-renowned event for the first time.

‘500 Years of Covent Garden: The Sir Simon Milton Foundation garden in partnership with Capco’ will be designed by award-winning garden designer Lee Bestall to showcase the area’s rich horticultural heritage. The garden celebrates Covent Garden’s early roots as a fruit orchard until the 16th century and later as a flower market, as well as the iconic architecture it is known for today, including the Market Building.

The Show Garden is sponsored by Capco, the landowner and steward of Covent Garden, in partnership with the Sir Simon Milton Foundation, the Westminster based charity which champions opportunities for young and old.

Central features of the garden include three 60-year-old retired apple trees, harking back to the early beginnings of ‘Convent Garden’ as an orchard belonging to and supplying the monk’s table at Westminster Abbey, in addition to the 300 year-old provenance of the neighbourhood as a fruit and flower market.  Flowering herbaceous plants will reflect the colours of apple blossom and large steel structures will reflect the distinctive arches of Covent Garden’s Grade II listed Market Building.

Reclaimed cobble pathways will guide visitors into the centre of the garden, just as the surrounding streets do into Covent Garden’s Piazza. A central seating area, paved with reclaimed York stone, provides a place to sit and relax, inspired by the social and modern dining environment of the Piazza which, as London’s first public square, was designed to bring people together.

Immediately following Chelsea Flower Show, elements of the garden will be given a home on the iconic Piazza that provided its inspiration. The retired apple trees, planters brimming with floral displays and furniture from the show garden will be relocated to Covent Garden’s Piazza to entice shoppers to sit and enjoy the floral oasis. Luxury alfresco food and drink pop-ups will enhance the garden during the summer months, starting with a Nyetimber bar from Thursday 1 June, serving one of the world’s most celebrated English sparkling wines with a taste of Covent Garden’s most popular dining destinations.

Commenting on the announcement, Lee Bestall, garden designer, said I’m incredibly excited about bringing retired orchard trees to Chelsea to help tell the fascinating backstory of Covent Garden through a beautiful, relaxing space designed for people to share a special moment in together – just like the Covent Garden we know and love today”.

Beverley Churchill, Creative Director, Capco, said “We are thrilled to be celebrating the rich heritage of Covent Garden, with a garden that we are proud to sponsor on behalf of the Sir Simon Milton Foundation, at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. Lee’s design for the garden is remarkable and demonstrates our ongoing passion and commitment to creating high quality green open space for the public to enjoy at both of our London estates”.

Robert Davis MBE DL, Founder and Trustee of the Sir Simon Milton Foundation said “We’re delighted to be back at Chelsea Flower Show and working closely with Covent Garden who share our vision of offering more opportunities, spaces and activities for those living in the capital. We strive to continue Simon’s vision of a society in which communities care, the young aspire and older people thrive and I look forward to seeing the many visitors at Chelsea enjoying the garden”.
