A few weeks ago, I hopped on a plane to Alicante in Spain to try out a  new fitness craze called PRAMA. Now, if the thought of going to the gym and running on a treadmill makes you want to curl up in your bed for 5 weeks, don’t worry. You’re not about to be converted to a gym addict, since PRAMA is more about using interactive, pressure-sensitive floors and walls to deliver a wide range of options for performance and functional training. With different lighting options, the system creates a unique atmosphere at the facility for different types of workouts. All the features are controlled at the touch of a button. Even the kids who joined the session with their parents later, seemed to be in agreement that it was great fun,  high-intensity and overall high energy class. The interactive studio can be programmed to lower intensity exercises so that the whole family can enjoy a class, working in teams to compete against each other. PRAMA has curated workouts designed to meet members where they’re at, with  targets based on participants’ age, weight, and sex. Two people can be running at different speeds and still meet their respective goals, making the workout challenging regardless of fitness level. This way, all who take part can be challenged rather than being overwhelmed or bored.

PRAMA addresses the questions most club operators tend to ask before deciding on making a new investment, including how the concept can fit into an existing club and how to market the PRAMA experience to existing club members. The concept is easy to use, very effective, and integrates three key elements – Pavigym Energy+, Pavigym Mood, and Pavigym Synapse – to offer a solution that both makes training more entertaining. Energy+ is a group training solution that uses high intensity interval training to ensure gym goers get the most of their workout. The concept combines interactive flooring with a regularly updated online support package to deliver a variety of classes throughout the year.  The workout programs are designed to train movements and the body-mind connection and can be used for both functional training and conditioning. They are suitable for members of all fitness levels and our lucky Chelsea Monthly readers can soon try out PRAMA for themselves.

PRAMA is coming to Kensington Harbour Club in June 2017 and will also be available in selected David Lloyd Clubs from the autumn.

500 Years of Covent Garden: The Sir Simon Milton Foundation Garden in partnership with Capco

Covent Garden is set to be reimagined as a breathtaking Show Garden at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, bringing a much-loved part of London to the world-renowned event for the first time.

‘500 Years of Covent Garden: The Sir Simon Milton Foundation garden in partnership with Capco’ will be designed by award-winning garden designer Lee Bestall to showcase the area’s rich horticultural heritage. The garden celebrates Covent Garden’s early roots as a fruit orchard until the 16th century and later as a flower market, as well as the iconic architecture it is known for today, including the Market Building.

The Show Garden is sponsored by Capco, the landowner and steward of Covent Garden, in partnership with the Sir Simon Milton Foundation, the Westminster based charity which champions opportunities for young and old.

Central features of the garden include three 60-year-old retired apple trees, harking back to the early beginnings of ‘Convent Garden’ as an orchard belonging to and supplying the monk’s table at Westminster Abbey, in addition to the 300 year-old provenance of the neighbourhood as a fruit and flower market.  Flowering herbaceous plants will reflect the colours of apple blossom and large steel structures will reflect the distinctive arches of Covent Garden’s Grade II listed Market Building.

Reclaimed cobble pathways will guide visitors into the centre of the garden, just as the surrounding streets do into Covent Garden’s Piazza. A central seating area, paved with reclaimed York stone, provides a place to sit and relax, inspired by the social and modern dining environment of the Piazza which, as London’s first public square, was designed to bring people together.

Immediately following Chelsea Flower Show, elements of the garden will be given a home on the iconic Piazza that provided its inspiration. The retired apple trees, planters brimming with floral displays and furniture from the show garden will be relocated to Covent Garden’s Piazza to entice shoppers to sit and enjoy the floral oasis. Luxury alfresco food and drink pop-ups will enhance the garden during the summer months, starting with a Nyetimber bar from Thursday 1 June, serving one of the world’s most celebrated English sparkling wines with a taste of Covent Garden’s most popular dining destinations.

Commenting on the announcement, Lee Bestall, garden designer, said I’m incredibly excited about bringing retired orchard trees to Chelsea to help tell the fascinating backstory of Covent Garden through a beautiful, relaxing space designed for people to share a special moment in together – just like the Covent Garden we know and love today”.

Beverley Churchill, Creative Director, Capco, said “We are thrilled to be celebrating the rich heritage of Covent Garden, with a garden that we are proud to sponsor on behalf of the Sir Simon Milton Foundation, at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. Lee’s design for the garden is remarkable and demonstrates our ongoing passion and commitment to creating high quality green open space for the public to enjoy at both of our London estates”.

Robert Davis MBE DL, Founder and Trustee of the Sir Simon Milton Foundation said “We’re delighted to be back at Chelsea Flower Show and working closely with Covent Garden who share our vision of offering more opportunities, spaces and activities for those living in the capital. We strive to continue Simon’s vision of a society in which communities care, the young aspire and older people thrive and I look forward to seeing the many visitors at Chelsea enjoying the garden”.

The London Cabaret Club is a fresh exciting entry to the  London’s nightlife scene. We attended the event at the Bloomsbury Ballroom which included an explosion of sequins, music and gastronomy. The show’s eclectic combination of world-class, specialty acts and exquisitely choreographed dancers with fine dining, wines and cocktails has earned the status as one of London’s best unique, pop-up-cabaret themed events.

The country’s finest musicians are cherry-picked to provide the live music to accompanying the acts, dancers and more. Top DJs supply the backdrop for revelers to enjoy the experience. After, the show, guests can stay for an afterparty featuring a dedicated in house DJ where they can party away till the early hours.

We left The London Cabaret Club with top reviews and it clearly solidified it’s status as one of the hottest ticket in town..

Last year, I received news that after over two years in Mayfair, the highly successful members’ club No.41 might be gone for good. I checked the calendar in the office to ensure that it wasn’t an April fools prank and as we entered 2016 I was literally getting ready to pack my dancing shoes neatly back into the top drawer when suddenly Suzanne Dickinson from No.41 finally broke the news that our favourite spot in London was in fact moving right close to us!  Yes, No.41 has moved to a new site in Kensington. So, not only do they move literally into my surname ‘Kensington’  but they are right bang in the centre of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Perfect!  So it’s fair to say that our previously distant Mayfair cousins are now close family members of Chelsea Monthly. The launch was scheduled  for the 2nd of April but I popped in a day earlier to see what was in store at the new location. I arrived to an after party by Miss USSR, and was  met by Floor Manager, Sebastian Banovic. Good to see that the old team is still alive and kicking. The new location has maintained  the high level of service, ambience and chic décor which we have grown to become accustomed to.

Based in The Kensington Close Hotel, a stone’s throw from High Street Kensington tube station, No.41 is back, bigger and better with its cutting-edge music policy and beautiful dancers who interrupt proceedings every now and then with a classier version of Coyote Ugly’s dance routine. Sexy, definitely…… Effortless, off course……. Elegance, you bet…..!!

The new No.41 exudes opulence and glamour with a 21st century twist. It is richly furnished with plush carpets, stately works of art and modern crystal chandeliers. Guests can book tables for bottle service or sample the extensive cocktail list at the bar whilst drinking in the vibrant atmosphere. There is also a rare twist to it’s entertainment courtesy of  Oktam Violini the resident violinist who was matching the DJ with his terrific violin skills all night. That is one of many experiences which you must witness to appreciate.

No.41 is open each and every Friday and Saturday nights until 3am, and will be available for private bookings.

If you are in the Borough and haven’t been yet? Check it out. It’s certainly going to be the place to be, this summer. As for my dancing shoes, well .. I can’t quite remember what happened the rest of the evening which is usually a sign of a good night!!

So, i think I was kind of set up by our  Deputy editor last Friday. I just received several e-mails from Andy suggesting I and Jeff were cordially invited to a cool Penthouse party called Social Concierge. Apparently, their publicist  Kevin May had called the office a few times requesting our presence. Since i am not one to turn down a good penthouse party literally next door to the office at Beautfort House, we decided to venture out. We arrived at Beaufort House to be  escorted by a very well dressed Kevin upstairs to the third floor where we walked into a casually stimulating environment with a mixture of light hearted music thrown in equal measure. We then sat at our table and the waitress arrived with a bottle of Champagne to kick off proceedings. Perfect!  As myself and colleague Jeff Armstrong cheered up to what had been an interesting week.
We were suddenly joined by a rather model-esque looking Alice who explained that she once had ambitions of being a babysitter, singer/songwriter, and part-time escort. Although for  the record, the ‘escort’   bit was just Alice’s attempt to break the ice. I also noticed her tattoo which read ‘Alice in Wonderland’ just in case anyone forgot her name! But what i was more interested in was her singing obviously… I just wished I had brought a guitar. She seemed like a beautiful soul in her own wonderland..the thought that ran through my mind was ‘I wonder what kind of music she makes’ ?  As I was busy wondering, in came Nana who was introduced as the founder… She insisted we took shots which we did and I decided to buy a round in return. It was starting to feel quite social so in came another lady who I can’t remember her name but I recall she was Online Editor from another magazine and seemed to be very proud that she was working for a certain well known Fashion Editor..I promise it’s not Anna Wintour.. (I would have remembered!!) . What i do recall is totally ‘thinking’ whilst I was talking and obviously ‘drinking’ was that ‘why does this conversation sound weird??’…as she admitted having never done something like this before! Then on my trip to the bar, I met Jennifer who was explaining her type of men being tall, dark and handsome… Fair enough!! I was just there to order shots.. Anyway, It was only when I bumped into a conversation with a guest who explained to me what social concierge was all about that the penny finally dropped. It suddenly made sense.
Social concierge is a private member dating  club launched in January as an exclusive dating app for young professionals. According to their press release,After three years of matchmaking 20/30 something smart, successful corporate professionals  the agency knows what its elite clients want: to get offline, get social and be allowed to be picky”.
Now, as I already  have a girlfriend and I am in a happy relationship this was certainly not where I expected to be on a Friday evening. I mean, I am known for never going on dating sites, dating events, etc so this was the Chelsea Monthly office well and truly setting us up. However, it was a great night and i can see the attraction to this form of offline dating so as I and Jeff made our lucky escape. We concluded, that if you are single and ready to mingle.. You will definitely love social concierge. It seems like great fun, with a really interesting and nice mix of people and it gets our thumbs up!!
