As usual, people were spectating the hats just as much as the horses at the thankfully warm and sunny Royal Ascot event this year. Smart Experiences sought to introduce a different Ascot experience in the Royal Ascot Village, a small complex opposite the grand stand made up of dining rooms, marquees and a stylish bar which had an established sporting legacy as it was used at many of the 2012 London Olympics events. It was a relaxed atmosphere, with people lounging in the sun in between races and listening to a fun guitar, saxophone and singing trio who lightly tinkled out old and new favourites.
Lunch was served in a large dining room of the Village. The guests enjoyed a three course meal with a beef carpaccio starter, a wonderfully light poached salmon main and a dessert buffet with a host of summery, delicate deserts such as lemon posset and chocolate cherry cakes. Later on, after a few heavy bets and losses, spirits were lifted as afternoon tea was served, offering raspberry smoothies, miniature scones, cupcakes and good old-fashioned, English finger sandwiches. Being a guest in the Royal Ascot Village definitely affords you one of the best views in the arena. A small walkway brings you right to the edge of the track where you can feel the ground vibrate as the horses plummet by you. Behind this is the dramatic backdrop of the famous grandstand which teems with people. This of course means you have the best seat for the Royal procession, definitely upping your chances of getting a wave from Her Majesty.
Bets can be placed in the comfort of the Village or from the bookies just next to the track.
