A hint of Rum & Spice in Notting Hill

1.04Kviews

Our search for authentic tastes in the capital city led us to Notting Hill. An area of London made famous by the annual carnival and iconic in Hollywood by Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts classic film of thesame title! This year,  it is about to make more noise in culinary via the launch of  Cottons Caribbean Restaurant and Rhum Shack.

The Cottons brand, have been around for over 30 years serving authentic Caribbean cuisine all over London and with branches both in Camden and Shoreditch. The  Notting Hill launch was most anticipated by foodies and critics alike.
As we sampled the menu on offer . It was clear to see that the owners had gone above and beyond to make sure that Cottons stands out from competition and delivers the best of Caribbean cuisine with an authentic twist. As for the drinks, i ordered  signature Cotton’s rum, with a kick of ‘je ne sais quoi’... that’s French for ‘i don’t know’ what was in it but it sure tasted phenomenal!!  Cottons has the largest rum collection in the UK, with over 300 varieties available. From Reggae Rum Punch to Killer Doppis to Piña Coladas, the Rhum Shack will be shaking up both classic and innovative cocktails using their own signature style and recipes. The original Cottons opened in Camden over 30 years’ ago and is still thriving today, while the Street Food extraordinaire Boxpark Cottons in Shoreditch launched over three years ago. Cottons Notting Hill will be the couture sister to the brand offering a more refined experience, but still keeping the colourful vibe and authentic Caribbean flavours for which Cottons is renowned.

Jamaican born Head Chef, Nikki McLeod, held the reins at Cottons Camden for 10 years. Dutch Manager, Martin Orbons, was previously at Virgin Hotels in Chicago, and Viceroy Hotels and Resorts in Miami.

Fresh, organic flowers such as chive flowers and coriander flowers will be used within the dishes enhancing them both aesthetically and taste-wise.
What lets down most restaurants is customer service . However, at Cotton’s Notting Hill the service  was truly exceptional. All staff, really bring the Caribbean vibe of fun, relaxed, courteous, and fantastic service. So, if you are stuck in the office and thinking of trying something new or perhaps want a little taste of the Caribbean sunshine right here on your doorstep. Cottons Notting Hill is highly recommended.
