The world’s oldest known bottle of Courvoisier cognac goes on sale at Harrods TODAY.

Dating back to the 18th century and priced at £95,000, the Courvoisier & Curlier will be a rare asset to any cognac connoisseur. This unique article was bottled in 1789 by the two nephews of Felix Courvoisier – the Curlier brothers.

Renowned London department store, Harrods, have acquired the 1789 Courvoisier & Curlier bottle from Dutch seller Bay van der Bunt, who maintains the private Old Liquors Collection. After spending much time in Mr van der Bunt’s cellar, the bottle will now be displayed for six weeks in the Tasting Room of the Harrods Wine Shop for visual purposes only. Already, debates are underway over whether the contents should ever be consumed.

The sale of the Courvoisier & Curlier bottle coincides with the launch of L’Atelier de Courvoisier at the Harrods store, taking place on 5th-8th December 2012 in the Tasting Room, allowing customers to take an explorative insight into Courvoisier’s rich heritage, particularly the renowned ageing cellar that resides in Cognac.

In addition, cognac connoisseurs will have the opportunity to purchase a rare collection of Courvoisier from the Harrods Wine Shop, including:

  • 1851 Courvoisier & Curlier Frères, Extra – £38,500
  • 1884 Courvoisier, Fine Champagne – £24,500
  • 1900 Courvoisier, Grande Fine Champagne – £12,500
  • 1920 Courvoisier, Fine Champagne de Luxe – £9,500
