  1. What inspired you to start ACANTHIA JEWELLERY?

I’ve always had a strong sense of creativity from a young age, I knew that I wanted to have my own business. Throughout university, I was particularly drawn to designing, as it allowed me to bring my ideas to life and develop a cohesive collection around a single brief. Finding my niche inspiration in my final terms of my final year, led to me to launch Acanthia Jewellery. I strived to create unique and distinctive jewellery that sets itself apart from other brands by offering a fresh perspective on a design, blending traditional techniques & motifs with innovative approaches to redefine nature inspired jewellery.

  1. Can you tell us about the journey of ACANTHIA JEWELLERY from its inception to where it is today?

In 2023, I founded Acanthia Jewellery as part of my final project at university, from Pinterest boards to launching the website, it has come a long way. Since then, I’ve successfully launched bespoke jewellery services and worked towards a third collection, continually seeking innovative ways to forge my own path in the industry and stay ahead of the curve. Acanthia Jewellery has been proud to be part of several notable achievements, including the Retail Jeweller Festival and Bright New Gems. I’m grateful for these opportunities and look forward to continuing the success as a start-up jewellery brand, building on the momentum, and growing my reputation.

  1. What sets ACANTHIA JEWELLERY apart from other jewellery brands?

Acanthia Jewellery is defined from other sustainable nature inspired brands because it breaks away from the conventional nature inspired jewellery on the market. The inspiration stems from the art nouveau period and the acanthus plant, to create one-of-a-kind designs that not only draw inspiration from nature but also incorporate modern trends and sustainable materials, resulting in truly innovative pieces.

  1. How would you describe the design philosophy behind ACANTHIA JEWELLERY?

The Original Collection was based around the Art Nouveau period and the motif of the acanthus plant, the core inspiration for Acanthia Jewellery as a brand, consisting of baroque style swirls used widely in Parisian architecture. The Art Nouveau period was known for its bold experimentation and disregard for traditional conventions, and Acanthia Jewellery is carrying on this spirit of innovation. We’re committed to doing something different to redefine nature inspired jewellery, creating a deeper connection with nature and deriving away from other obvious nature jewellery.

  1. Can you share any insights into the materials and craftsmanship that go into creating ACANTHIA JEWELLERY pieces?

As a registered Fairtrade Goldsmith, I have always found it important to take consideration of the environmental impact whilst creating jewellery. Utilising precious metals, both recycled and Fairtrade, to sourcing ethically sourced gemstones, I always ensure my designs can be made as responsibly as possible. Knowing my aim is to create something different nature inspired meant it made my brand more meaningful to adopt sustainability as a core value.

The craftsmanship takes places within the heart of the Jewellery Quarter, from designing to packaging orders. I utilise local casting companies to minimise carbon footprint and to ensure quality between stages of production.

  1. What are some of the key values or principles that ACANTHIA JEWELLERY stands for?

Acanthia Jewellery has 3 core values: sustainability, transparency, and quality.

I am committed to integrating sustainable materials and processes throughout production, and continually striving to improve the sustainability. Specifically, I utilise recycled and Fairtrade materials, and source ethically mined gemstones, ensuring that the products align with my values of eco-conscious thinking.

I promise to provide clear communication and honesty in every element: including origins, production & processes involved, creating a trustworthy relationship with my customers.

The pieces are carefully crafted in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham, and undergo quality assurance checks at every stage to ensure exceptional quality and attention to detail.

  1. How does ACANTHIA JEWELLERY stay innovative and adapt to changing trends in the jewellery industry?

I stay ahead of the curve by monitoring trends in jewellery magazines, anticipating upcoming themes and motifs. While I’m aware of the importance of staying current, I also prioritize creating timeless, classic pieces that will remain stylish and elegant regardless of shifting trends. Additionally, I aim to offer a diverse range of designs suitable for various occasions, from everyday wear to formal evening events.

  1. Can you highlight any memorable moments or milestones in the history of ACANTHIA JEWELLERY?

The Original Collection was awarded a highly commended recognition in 2023, providing a prestigious platform for Acanthia Jewellery to showcase its brand at the Retail Jeweller Festival, specifically in the Bright New Gems stand. This exposure enabled me to introduce my brand to the industry and establish a presence in the trade.

Acanthia Jewellery’s top achievement to date has been the prestigious sponsorship of the National Film Awards 2024, a milestone for my brand. Acanthia Jewellery will benefit from increased brand visibility with potential customers, enhances brand recognition and possible future collaborations.

At Acanthia Jewellery, I believe that confidence and individuality are not just about the style of the jewellery, but also about the story behind it. That’s why I strive to create pieces that not only inspire confidence and self-expression, but also align with my customers’ values of sustainability and social responsibility.
