It’s great news all around for Chelsea’s newest school as Ofsted inspectors rated it as `outstanding’.
Chelsea Academy opened in 2009, and moved to its state-of-the-art £43 million building in Lots Road in September 2010. The inspection took place during the penultimate week of the summer term and inspectors were so impressed they graded the Academy as ‘outstanding’.

The glowing inspection report  talks of the Academy’s “impact, enthusiasm and professionalism” and of students’ enjoyment of school and high attainment. According to the report “students’ behaviour in lessons and around the Academy is exemplary” and “they conduct themselves with maturity and contribute to the progress made in lessons.”

Inspectors also noted that “the best lessons are truly inspirational and compelling, giving students opportunities to excel.” The school’s leadership is praised with the inspectors describing it as “led extremely well by the Principal and the senior leadership team” and that “leadership at all levels is impressive”.

Principal Andy Yarrow said: “We are all so pleased with the outcome of this inspection. Both staff and pupils have worked very hard to make Chelsea Academy the best school it can possibly be, and it is very encouraging that these experienced school inspectors recognised the high quality of our provision for the students. We will maintain these high aspirations and standards for our new Year 7 students arriving in September, along with our Sixth Form that opens at the same time. The Academy has received a huge amount of support over the past couple of years from many individuals and other schools, for which I am very grateful.”

The Ven Stephan Welch, Chairman of Governors, said: “The thorough and searching examination of the Academy by the inspectors leaves absolutely no room for doubt about the level of our achievement to date.”

Councillor Sir Merrick Cockell, Leader of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Vice Chairman of the Academy’s Governing body, said: “This report is excellent news for everyone connected with the Chelsea Academy. It is clear that our newest school is already setting the highest standards which can only be good news for generations of the borough’s children.”
